Poetry Bookclub to start in November at Boulder Book Store
Living Poets Society Inaugural Meeting
Fall isn't the only thing in the air this November—so is poetry! The newly formed Living Poets Society poetry bookclub will meet on the second Tuesday of each month at the Boulder Book Store, and will focus predominantly on contemporary, living poets. Our first pick will be Delights & Shadows by Ted Kooser. All are welcome, so pick up a copy and join us for our kick-off meeting.
Kooser, former U.S. Poet Laureate and Iowa native, is the author of ten collections of poetry, and is the recipient of a Pushcart Prize. He has been widely praised for his plainspoken style, his gift for metaphor, and his quiet discoveries of beauty in ordinary things.
The meeting will be a moderated discussion on the book and will include audio of the author reading his work. Sorry, the author will not be present, but there will be refreshments. The first meeting of the Living Poets Society bookclub will be on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at 6:30pm in the Upper North Room of the Boulder Book Store, 1107 Pearl Street, Boulder, CO. Out of the Book Film Showing at Boulder Book Store
"A VIRTUOSO WORK OF HISTORY" IS COMMEMORATED ON FILM
As our society rockets toward the future, we are increasingly consuming information through ever more complex technology. As a result, publishers, authors and booksellers are constantly searching for new ways to engage the reader. Enter Out Of The Book™ Productions, an endeavor in which our good friends at Powell's Books have introduced a groundbreaking series of compelling short films about authors. Coupled with interactive events and spirited discussion at your local independent bookstore, Out of the Book delivers engaging and expansive portraits of writers and their work.
On November, 13, 2007 at 7:30pm Boulder Book Store will premier The Coldest Winter, a film featuring the late David Halberstam, as the second installment in the Out of The Book™ film series. The Baltimore Sun raves, "The Coldest Winter is easily the best popular history of the Korean War. Halberstam is a whale of a storyteller." Joan Didion, Neil Sheehan, Bob Woodward, Anna Quindlen, and a host of other voices will share the screen with veterans of the Korean War in a tribute to one of America's most distinguished journalists and historians.
